Immersive Tour of The Miami Design District

 
 

As a category leader in technology and customer experience, Mastercard wanted to provide its cardholders with a unique experience through its exclusive cardholder platform, priceless.com. In partnership with the Miami Design District and Mastercard, we created a #priceless tour of the area, accessible to cardholders around the world using augmented reality, to bring seven key pieces from the district to the user’s own space.

How It Works

Using their mobile device, Mastercard cardholders can choose where to start their tour via an AR art installation at the start of the experience. The AR art installation consists of seven mirrored orbs that show the art piece that they are an entry point for. The orbs represent both a nod to the Mastercard logo and also Buckminster Fuller’s Fly Eye Dome, creating a digital piece that looks like it could be part of the Miami Design District. 

Once a piece is selected, users are transported to the Miami Design District and can experience a 360-view of the art piece. Upon entering each portal, users will be able to learn about each piece through audio and written descriptions. Users can walk around these pieces by tapping or walking towards designated hotspots.

Experience Design

Users were able to virtually tour the Miami Design District in two ways: by using a menu or by using nested portal doors within each portal. The nested portals are akin to wandering around a museum while using the menu is like using a museum map. By using the menu, users can choose their own adventure and visit the pieces they are specifically interested in. The nested portal doors represent an ideal path and allow users to easily move from art piece to art piece without the cognitive load of having to choose the piece, potentially without the context of what the piece is.
